A famous mountaineer and expedition climber, Reinhold Messner is renowned for being the first climber to ascend all fourteen mountain peaks over 8,000 meters (above 26,000 feet) and being the first, with a fellow mountaineer, ever to reach the top of Earth’s highest mountain, Mount Everest, without supplemental oxygen.

I always knew about him, he is a legend in Germany and in the Alpine world, born in the Italian Alps, in South Tyrol, a predominantly German-speaking area. But only when I started reading some of his books, did I realize what he can teach the rest of us about living and working.
