“It is sad to watch people going around in circles, examining the souls of those around them, without realizing that all they have to do is pay attention to and appreciate the power that is within themselves.” — Wise words by Roman emperor and philosopher Marc Aurelius.

How often do you take the time to look at yourself, pay attention to yourself and try to identify your personality, your desires, your strengths, your vision of life and your attitude towards things?

We can function properly if we don’t absorb all the stimuli, otherwise our brain would be overwhelmed, and we would not be able to fulfill our daily responsibilities. Therefore, we have to choose and be aware of what we want to respond to, when we want to act and what we want to deal with.

And, on top of it, with the many daily stimuli around us, we want to take some time to reflect. Not easy.

To do that, we need to know ourselves.

“In an overcrowded, overstimulated, overcomplex world, we have to learn to reflect on ourselves in a new way,” describes Matthias Horx of the Future Institute.

Are you aware of your self-awareness?

Self-awareness is the ability to focus on yourself and become aware of how actions, thoughts, or emotions match or disagree with your internal standards. Do you know your internal standards, values and principles?

“Everything is present within us if we go within ourselves and are truthful.” (Mengzi, Chinese Confucian philosopher)

Why are you more successful and satisfied and less stressed when you pay attention to yourself?

Here are 7 reasons….

1. …Because you get to know your personality and understand why you behave in a certain way!

“To work well with other people, you need to understand their personality and they need to understand yours.” — Adam Grant Organizational Psychologist
