What is the role of your business?

Are you looking at the long-term good or the short-term profit? We are conditioned to look at the “potential sale!” — which is looking at the short-term profit.

Alternatively, you can look at the value you are giving that makes something better — which is looking at the long-term good and will result in successful business activities.

Many companies look at their business as a ‘transactional operation’ instead of looking at it in terms of a ‘people operation’ with human relationships. Without the human interaction between leaders and teams, between company staff and customers there is no business.

In a survey of 1,000 leaders published in Harvard Business Review, 80% said they would like to enhance their compassion, but don’t know how. We are looking at compassion as the intent to contribute to the happiness and well-being of others. A compassionate leader has the honest interest in seeing their people not just perform and increase profits but thrive.
